And investing in individual lives.
Here are some ministry snap shots from an incredibly busy summer:
—>In partnership with Lee University, we were thrilled to host Vincent Perillo and Brielle Palmer from the 22nd of May - 29th of July in our mission to reach our local community. They were able to build solid relationships with our local young people and have helped to grow the guys and girls bible study. There are currently 3 girls interested in becoming Christians.
—>From the 15th through 19th of July, and in partnership with Bethel Baptist church in Pontyclun, we put on our 11th straight Surge youth camp which reached 50 young people with the gospel and included more than 20 adult and youth volunteers and leaders. Surge was pivotal in helping Ellis come to faith last year, and we are already seeing how other young people will make that important decision to follow Christ in the near future.
—>From the 22nd-26th of July, we organised the 16th rendition of Summershine (VBS) in Llantwit Fardre and reached about 80 children and their parents with the gospel. Stronger links with the community in Llantwit Fardre continue to be formed and we are praying that the seeds we have worked so long to sow will come to fruition. We were delighted to see young leaders like Abby, Aneira, Becky, Louis and Hannah — all of whom have come through Summershine — step up and give maximum effort as they led their respective teams and rotations.
—>Also from the 22nd-26th our partner church in Tonteg, Salem Welsh Baptist Chapel, ran a simultaneous Summershine event that saw about 100 children and their families engaged with the gospel through the church. Both of the Summershine events in Tonteg and Llantwit Fardre were supported by FBC Columbia and their young adult minister Deron Henry, as well as, several other fantastic leaders.
—>In Swindon, England, our friends at Upper Stratton Baptist Church and FBC Conyers led Summershine the week of the 29th of July - the 2nd of August and reached 120 children and their families with the gospel. USBC pastor Simon Govier, by the power of the Holy Spirit, has helped transform the church into a vibrant and community centric testimony of the light and love of Jesus. Their success has translated into other church expressing interest in running Summershine to help reach their communities.
—>This year marked our first youth camp with Limitless. From the 6th-11th of August, Eight of us from our church in Beddau camped out on the Three Counties Showgrounds in Malvern with 1,500 other young people children and adults for 5 incredible days of worship, evangelism and discipleship. Even though life-threatening storms drove us out of our tents and into some cow sheds, we were not going to let the weather defeat us. We knew God was with us as we sang, “I’m going to sing in the middle of the storm, louder and louder, you’re gonna hear our praises roar”!
We now have the very import task of discipleship after an amazing summer of evangelism. Please pray for us as we follow up on all these exciting initiatives.
Here are some specific requests:
- Door to door contact with children and families.
- Opportunities in the school to build relationships and share faith stories.
- To encourage our local young people to keep moving forward in their faith.
- Getting preparations ready for next year.
- Our church leadership to stay focussed and intentional as we follow up with contacts.
- For those who have made decisions for Christ are wanting to follow Jesus in baptism.
In May of this year we were able to fulfil a dream of ours and take a ‘driving holiday’ to France. We stayed in an old converted barn about 6 hours drive south of Paris. The barn overlooked a field of tall grass and poppies that gently disappeared into a forrest. Outside, the wood-fired grill helped keep our bellies full and the cherry trees in the garden offered us delicious treats as we threw the frisbee, swam in the pool, and played bocce ball. The nights were long and filled with fun card games, conversation and special time together. Now that the summer events are in our rear-view, we can focus on the next school year and look forward to seeing Amanda’s parents at Christmas. We can’t wait!
